WHY HIRE A DOULA?

A Doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, mental and spiritual support to the mother, partner and baby throughout her entire pregnancy. A doula is the birthing mother's support and companion enabling her to have the labor she wants as well as coach her in unexpected situations. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states, "continuous one-to-one emotional support provided by support personnel, such as the doula is associated with improved outcomes for the women in labor". Women who hire a doula have fewer complications, shorter labors, fewer c-sections, fewer inductions, less use of IV medications, better APGAR scores for babies when they are born and lower rates of postpartum depression.
