Pregnancy, birth and the early days of child rearing can be very scary and stressful. Our role with Postpartum Support services is to ensure you get the best information and care possible, allowing you to heal and enjoy your life with your newest addition. Tasks of the postpartum doula: Assessing the Needs of the Family Providing Recommendations and Referrals Emotional Support of the individuals parenting choices Encouragement and positive affirmations Newborn hands-on education Normal newborn behavior Normal newborn appearance Sleep habits Feeding Bathing Dressing Baby When to call the doctor Breastfeeding counseling* (See additional info below) Cord and circumcision care Establishing routine with newborn and other children Organizing the nursery Light house work Sibling education and transition Care of older siblings Creating shopping lists Nutritional Support Food shopping Meal preparation *Breastfeeding counseling: Advanced breastfeeding education Help knowing what is normal or when you need specialized care Help with comfortable positions for mom and baby Establishing helpful routines Establishing a good latch Establishing a good milk supply Learning to use your pump Proper milk storage When to refer to additional specialists such as Lactation Consultants in your area
